We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Product Manager to own and drive the end-to-end product strategy for merchant acquisition, onboarding, and lifecycle servicing across card and EFTPOS payments in the Australian market.


This role requires deep expertise in payments, merchant acquiring, compliance, and digital onboarding, along with strong stakeholder engagement across banks, PSPs, fintechs, and internal leadership teams.


Key Responsibilities

Product Strategy & Ownership

  • Own and lead end-to-end product strategy for merchant acquisition, onboarding, and servicing
  • Define product vision, roadmap, and investment priorities aligned with:
  • Banks
  • Payment Service Providers (PSPs)
  • Merchant segments (SME, enterprise, platforms)


Stakeholder Management

Engage with:

  • Banks, acquirers, fintechs
  • Card schemes (Visa, Mastercard, eftpos)
  • Internal sales, architecture, and delivery teams
  • Influence product direction through executive-level communication


Regulatory & Compliance

Drive compliance across onboarding and servicing journeys:

  • AUSTRAC AML/CTF
  • PCI DSS
  • RBA guidelines
  • Scheme mandates
  • Ensure robust risk management and governance frameworks


Market Intelligence & Growth

Lead:

  • Competitor analysis
  • Regulatory scanning
  • Value proposition development
  • Business case creation
  • Identify opportunities to improve:
  • Merchant conversion
  • Time-to-value (TTV)
  • Servicing efficiency


Leadership & Delivery

  • Mentor and guide Product Managers and Business Analysts
  • Foster a product-centric, outcome-driven culture
  • Champion Agile product delivery models with measurable outcomes


Key Deliverables

  • Scalable digital onboarding journeys
  • Improved merchant acquisition and conversion metrics
  • Strong compliance and risk frameworks
  • API-driven, modular product capabilities


Skills & Experience Required

Domain Expertise

  • 12–15+ years in banking or payments
  • Deep expertise in:
  • Merchant acquiring
  • Onboarding & servicing
  • Strong understanding of Australian payments ecosystem:
  • Visa, Mastercard, eftpos
  • Acquirers, PSPs, gateways


Product & Technical Expertise

  • Proven experience designing and scaling digital onboarding journeys:
  • KYC / KYB
  • Underwriting
  • Risk checks
  • Integrations
  • Strong background in product strategy and go-to-market execution
  • Experience with:
  • Platforms, APIs, modular services
  • API-first and microservices architectures


Compliance & Risk

  • Strong knowledge of:
  • AML/CTF (AUSTRAC)
  • PCI DSS compliance
  • Merchant risk frameworks
  • Scheme regulations


Delivery & Stakeholder Skills

  • Strong requirements engineering capability
  • Ability to convert business + regulatory needs into scalable products
  • Exceptional:
  • Stakeholder management
  • Executive communication
  • Storytelling


Ways of Working

  • Experience in Agile, product-led delivery environments
  • Hands-on collaboration across business, tech, and operations teams


Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Payments domain expert (merchant acquiring focus)
  • Strong product strategist + execution leader
  • Deep understanding of compliance-driven onboarding journeys
  • Proven ability to work with complex ecosystems (banks, schemes, regulators)
  • Comfortable operating at senior leadership level
