Job Purpose

To deliver design edge and help deliver commercial excellence to the product category in adherence to the brand promise while maintaining international standards, competitive edge and ensuring target consumer needs

Job Context & Major Challenges

In the fast changing fashion space, newness and freshness of innovative designs is important in the apparels industry. Brand designer need to be updated to deliver the designs of the customer's choice.

  • Creating/visualizing an idea and producing a range. Researching emerging fashion trends as well as general trends relating to fabrics, colors and silhouettes.
  • Understanding design from a technical perspective, i.e. producing patterns, toiles and technical specifications for designs; sourcing, selecting and facilitate buying fabrics, trims, fastenings and embellishments and adapting existing designs for mass production
  • Working closely with the larger design team, buyers, product developers and production teams to develop innovative ranges which are in line with the customer and market requirements

KRA1 Trend Forecast 1. Conduct primary & secondary Research on Fashion & Lifestyle trends

  • benchmark competition brands and travel to fairs/markets & mills
  • work closely with the buying team/marketing team and participate in sell-thru presentations to identify key takeaways which needs to be integrated into design lines.
  • Call out all colors/fabrics/silhouette/product innovation/ornamentation and consolidate creation of trend forecast for the upcoming season for the category

KRA2 Season Concept 1. Create the seasonal concept to ensure commercial viability/fashion sensibility and reinstatement of the consumer value proposition and brand promise

KRA3 Line Creation 1. Liaison with the Product & Product Development teams to understand costing/commercial viability of the merchandize.

  • Guide the team on preparing winning ideas to convert concepts into innovative & commercially viable products & present the Season line/collection.

KRA4 Tech Packs 1. Monitor creation of quality tech packs and facilitate timely uploads on the PLM

  • intervene strategically wherever required to ensure handover to sourcing & product teams in line with the business process calendar

KRA5 Quality Sampling 1. Lead Quality sampling

  • guide team on working with product and sourcing & mills to ensure sampling and in compliance with the timelines/ deliverables.

KRA6 New Category 1. Work closely with the Function Head and guide the team in understanding existing gaps, exploring newer value propositions, channels/product/design/concepts - consistent with brand identity/fashion experience/consumer requirements

KRA7 Team Development 1. Develop team capabilities

  • ensure continuous learning & development for all individuals in the team

KRA8 Self Development 1. Ensure travel & visits to mills, fairs

  • work in the market to understand emerging trends & consumer insights.
  • Take initiatives to build technical faculty and work with Function Head & other Category Heads to create innovative product lines
