Program overview
The New Colombo Plan (NCP) plays a key role in supporting the Australian Government’s objectives in building Asia capability. It aims to lift the Indo-Pacific capability and Asia literacy in Australia by supporting Australian undergraduates to undertake study, language learning and internships in the Indo-Pacific.
NCP alumni contribute their Indo-Pacific capability and Asia literacy to Australia’s enduring engagement in the Indo-Pacific region. This is achieved through three complementary grants programs: the Scholarship Program, Mobility Program and Semester Program.
The NCP PSU supports Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s (DFAT’s) New Colombo Plan Secretariat (NCS) with high-quality grant administration and management consistent with the Commonwealth Grant Rules and Principles. Support service delivery includes end-to-end grants cycle and funds management, as well as technical support in Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL), alumni engagement, communications, events management, business sector engagement and risk management.
This Opportunity
The HR Coordinator plays a critical role in supporting the delivery of human resources and recruitment services across the New Colombo Plan Program Support Unit (PSU), contributing to high-quality operational and technical outcomes for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
Working closely with the Senior Coordinator, Operations, this role provides end-to-end HR coordination, recruitment support, onboarding, and administrative services in a fast-paced and purpose-driven environment.
Roles and Responsibilities
The HR Coordinator will be responsible for:
Human Resources
- Support the provision of HR services across the PSU, including responding to HR queries, providing guidance on policies, and escalating complex matters
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records, liaising with payroll and corporate teams as required
- Coordinate HR processes including performance reviews, salary and compensation
Recruitment and Selection
- Coordinate the end-to-end recruitment process, including advertising, shortlisting, interview coordination, due diligence and contracting
- Support hiring managers throughout the recruitment cycle, ensuring timely and effective processes
- Ensure recruitment activities comply with DFAT requirements and organisational policies, including safeguarding and equity principles
- Contribute to talent pipeline development and support proactive sourcing for specialised roles
Onboarding
- Coordinate onboarding and induction processes to ensure a smooth transition for new staff
- Facilitate onboarding briefings, mandatory compliance training, and due diligence requirements
HR Metrics and Reporting
- Maintain accurate HR data across recruitment, onboarding and learning systems
- Support the preparation of HR reports and provide data for analysis as required
- Track recruitment progress and provide regular updates to relevant stakeholders
Administration Support
- Provide high-quality administrative support to the Program Enabling team

About You
We are seeking an individual who has:
- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as HR, Business and/or an equivalent combination of relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience in related HR coordination, preferably applied in the international development context and a diverse and fast paced environment.
- Experience in HR coordination and recruitment, ideally in a fast-paced or complex environment
- Strong organisational and administrative skills with attention to detail
- A working knowledge of Australian employment practices and HR processes
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with diverse stakeholders
- A proactive, collaborative approach with a focus on service delivery
