India: Business Intelligence Engineer

We are looking for a Business Intelligence Engineer (Data Engineering) to join our Advanced Analytics and Reporting team. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about data engineering, business operations, and transforming complex data into actionable insights. The ideal candidate will work closely with stakeholders as a solution partner, independently managing end-to-end data engineering projects including designing, developing, optimizing, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and notebooks within Azure environments. The role also requires ensuring data reliability, accuracy, and efficient data flow across systems. In addition to data engineering responsibilities, the candidate should be capable of analyzing data, identifying trends and insights, and developing intuitive dashboards and visualizations when required. This position involves regular collaboration with international teams and requires strong communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities for BI Engineer (Data Engineering)

  • Partner with stakeholders to understand business operations, KPIs, and Business Intelligence requirements.
  • Translate business requirements into well-defined Jira epics, user stories, and acceptance criteria.
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable data pipelines using Microsoft Azure, Databricks, ADF, and ADLS.
  • Develop efficient and optimized Databricks notebooks using PySpark and SparkSQL for data transformation and analytics.
  • Implement business logic and transformation requirements into reliable and maintainable data engineering solutions.
  • Monitor and optimize pipelines for performance, stability, scalability, and cost efficiency.
  • Ensure continuous and reliable data flow across enterprise systems and reporting platforms.
  • Collaborate with IT teams and source system owners to resolve data quality, refresh, and integration issues.
  • Work closely with senior developers and cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality BI and data engineering solutions.
  • Maintain clear technical, functional, and process documentation for all deliverables.
  • Support CI/CD implementation and deployment best practices within the data engineering lifecycle.
  • Continuously explore and adopt emerging technologies in Microsoft Azure, Databricks and AI.

Technical Skills Must Have

  • Strong experience with Databricks Notebooks using PySpark and SparkSQL for data transformation and advanced analytics.
  • Hands-on experience building and maintaining data pipelines using Azure Data Factory (ADF), Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS), and Databricks.
  • Strong expertise in Databricks Job Orchestration, cluster configuration, performance tuning, and cost monitoring.
  • Strong understanding of notebook optimization techniques using PySpark and SparkSQL.
  • Proficiency with version control tools such as GitHub.
  • Solid understanding of data engineering concepts including ETL/ELT frameworks and Medallion Architecture.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with CI/CD processes and deployment practices in data engineering environments.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Good to Have

  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric ecosystem.
  • Knowledge of BI and visualization tools such as Power BI (DAX, Power Query).
  • Exposure to Agentic AI concepts, automation workflows, or AI-enabled analytics solutions.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional and international teams.
  • Experience with Power Automate.
  • Domain experience in Oil & Gas or similar data-intensive industries.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in petroleum engineering, mechanical engineering, computer science, analytics, or other quantitative disciplines.
  • Experience or exposure to operational domains such as Oil & Gas, Manufacturing, Maintenance, or related industries is preferred.
