This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong stakeholder engagement, people management capability and deep understanding of cloud and platform engineering practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and line manage a team of 3 Platform Engineers.
  • Provide technical and operational leadership within the Platform Engineering function.
  • Support the Head of Cloud in delivering platform strategy and cloud initiatives.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of cloud landing zones across Azure and AWS.
  • Ensure platform engineering best practices, governance and operational standards are followed.
  • Work closely with Civil Service stakeholders and wider technology teams.
  • Prioritise and coordinate team workloads and delivery objectives.
  • Provide mentoring, coaching and performance management for team members.
  • Act as the escalation point for platform engineering issues and strategic decisions.
  • Support knowledge transfer and handover from the current post-holder.

Essential Experience

  • Previous experience in a Principal DevOps Manager, Platform Engineering Manager, Engineering Manager or similar leadership role.
  • Strong people management and team leadership experience.
  • Proven experience leading Platform Engineering or DevOps teams.
  • Significant experience working with both Azure and AWS cloud environments.
  • Strong understanding of cloud platform architecture, landing zones, governance and operational practices.
  • Experience engaging with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to operate in a hands-on technical leadership capacity without requiring day-to-day coding responsibilities.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Previous experience working within the NHS, wider Healthcare sector, Central Government, Civil Service, or another Public Sector organisation.
  • Comfortable working in highly regulated environments with established governance processes.
  • Available to start immediately or at short notice.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience delivering cloud transformation programmes within government or public sector organisations.
  • Familiarity with platform engineering operating models.
