Position: Java Architect

Location: Brussels, Belgium

Hybrid: 2-3 times a week on the client´s office

Candidates must possess European nationality or a valid work permit for Belgium

Mandatory Languages: One of the national languages (Dutch and French) must be the mother tongue, and the other language must be understood and readable

Job Description:

We are looking for an experienced and innovative Java Architect to design, implement, and optimize enterprise-level solutions. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of Java ecosystems, modern architectural patterns, and emerging technologies. As a Java Architect, you will play a pivotal role in defining technical strategies, driving best practices, and leading development teams to build scalable and high-performance applications.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop robust, scalable, and secure Java-based architectures for enterprise applications.
  • Define technical blueprints, architectural frameworks, and technology roadmaps using modern tools and methodologies.
  • Lead the adoption of advanced technologies such as Spring Boot, Quarkus, and Micronaut to create lightweight and efficient microservices.
  • Architect microservices-based solutions using tools like Docker, Kubernetes, and service meshes (e.g., Istio, Linkerd).
  • Drive integration strategies using RESTful APIs, GraphQL, and asynchronous communication tools like Kafka or RabbitMQ.
  • Ensure alignment with cloud-native architectures, leveraging platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Promote and enforce DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and infrastructure as code (Terraform, Ansible).
  • Implement advanced security practices, such as OAuth2, JWT, and zero-trust architecture.
  • Lead and mentor development teams, conducting code reviews, providing guidance, and ensuring adherence to industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable and maintainable technical solutions.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize application performance, ensuring high availability and resilience.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies, and integrate them into architectural strategies.


Requirements:

  • Proven experience as a Java Architect or in a similar role, with at least 8+ years in software development.
  • Deep expertise in Java SE/EE, Spring Boot, Hibernate, and JPA.
  • Strong understanding of microservices architecture, domain-driven design (DDD), and event-driven architectures.
  • Proficiency in containerization technologies (Docker, Podman) and orchestration tools (Kubernetes, OpenShift).
  • Expertise in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP), including serverless technologies such as AWS Lambda or Azure Functions.
  • Strong knowledge of database systems, including SQL (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra).
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, or CircleCI) and observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK Stack).
  • Solid understanding of API standards (e.g., OpenAPI, Swagger) and architectural styles (REST, GraphQL, gRPC).
  • Familiarity with modern testing frameworks and practices, including JUnit 5, Mockito, and Testcontainers.
  • Knowledge of security best practices, including identity management and encryption standards.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to articulate architectural decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications such as Oracle Certified Java Developer, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, or equivalent.
  • Hands-on experience with modern frameworks like Quarkus or Micronaut.
  • Knowledge of service meshes, such as Istio or Consul, for advanced service discovery and traffic management.
  • Experience with event-sourcing patterns and tools like Apache Kafka Streams or Debezium.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML integration or data engineering pipelines.
