Job Description: Freelance Senior Backend Developer

Location: Brussels, Belgium

Contract Duration: 12 months

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Backend Developer to join our client's technology team in Brussels. This role offers the opportunity to work on mission-critical systems in the retail sector, driving the backend architecture and infrastructure for scalable, high-performance applications. The ideal candidate will have expertise in Node.js and experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain robust backend systems and APIs to support scalable applications.
• Collaborate with frontend developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to deliver seamless integrations.
• Architect and implement cloud-based solutions.
• Optimize application performance, ensuring low latency and high availability.
• Implement secure coding practices to protect data and systems.
• Conduct thorough code reviews and enforce best practices for maintainable and scalable codebases.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve complex backend issues.
• Stay informed about emerging technologies and recommend innovative solutions to improve the client’s backend systems.

Required Skills and Experience

• Proficiency in Node.js and its associated frameworks (e.g., Express.js, NestJS).
• Strong understanding of RESTful API design and implementation.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), or Microsoft Azure.
• Knowledge of database technologies, both SQL (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB, DynamoDB).
• Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
• Solid understanding of event-driven architectures and message queues (e.g., RabbitMQ, Kafka).

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in the retail or e-commerce sector is a significant advantage.
• Familiarity with serverless architectures (e.g., AWS Lambda, Google Cloud Functions).
• Knowledge of GraphQL and its integration with backend systems.
• A portfolio of backend projects showcasing scalable and secure solutions.
