Mux is a leading provider of video infrastructure solutions designed for developers. Our mission is to democratize video by addressing the complex challenges faced when building video applications, including video encoding, streaming, and monitoring. We aim to enhance the way people experience video content by offering reliable, scalable, and innovative tools that empower developers and businesses alike. With a strong focus on building a healthy and inclusive team, Mux welcomes diverse backgrounds and experiences, fostering a culture of growth, collaboration, and shared success.
Our team comprises experts from renowned technology companies such as Google, YouTube, Twitch, Reddit, Zencoder, and Fastly. Our founders have a proven track record in cloud video technology, having previously started and sold Zencoder and authored Video.js, the most popular HTML5 video player on the web. We organize Demuxed, the premier conference for video engineers globally, and are backed by top-tier investors including Coatue, Accel, Andreessen Horowitz, and Y Combinator. Our solutions serve a broad customer base, ranging from startups to established companies like Strava, Patreon, Vimeo, Robinhood, PBS, and Equinox, all of whom value our innovative approach and dedicated team.
About The Role
As a Software Engineer at Mux, you will be instrumental in developing our next-generation Video products that deliver exceptional user experiences to millions worldwide. Your role involves leading and executing complex projects within our Video stack and infrastructure, managing high volumes of video ingestion and processing—handling hundreds of thousands of videos and over a billion encodes per month through our proprietary, just-in-time transcoding architecture. You will influence the technical roadmap of our platform, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to push the boundaries of video technology.
This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on scalable, high-performance systems that impact users globally and to shape the future of video infrastructure at Mux.
In this role, you will work across teams—including product, customer success, and engineering—to implement innovative solutions aligned with business and product strategies. You will be involved in all stages of development, from technical design and coding to testing, experimentation, deployment, and ongoing support. Your responsibilities will also include reviewing code, providing feedback on product specifications, and ensuring our systems are reliable, available, and production-ready. You will take ownership of project planning and delivery, acting as both a hands-on contributor and an architect, while actively contributing ideas to influence the team’s roadmap and priorities.
We value proactive problem solvers with a passion for building reliable distributed systems. You will promote best practices for fault tolerance, latency reduction, and observability, ensuring our platform remains robust and scalable. Your expertise in building and operating video systems in a service-oriented architecture will be vital in maintaining our high standards of quality and performance.
