We are seeking experienced APS6 Data Scientists to join a high-performing analytics and data team. Multiple positions are available, offering the opportunity to lead data-driven initiatives, manage teams, and deliver actionable insights that support strategic decision-making.


Please note: These role require Australian Citizenship, current Baseline is preferred.


About the Roles

These team leadership positions involve oversight of reporting, analysis, and data management activities. You will provide professional, technical, operational, and policy advice on complex problems, exercise initiative and judgment, and manage risks and resources across a range of activities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage extraction, cleansing, and preparation of data from multiple sources, including data warehouses.
  • Oversee updates to and development of performance monitoring frameworks.
  • Conduct statistical and mathematical modelling, including cost-benefit analyses and scheme projection models.
  • Perform deep dives, policy costings, and risk assessments.
  • Manage ad hoc modelling requests and report production.
  • Develop and present key analysis and insights tailored to stakeholders.
  • Support and coach junior staff.


The Analytics, Data & Actuarial Division provides insights on program effectiveness, financial sustainability, and risk. The team produces critical reporting and modelling that informs strategic planning and policy development.


Essential Criteria

  • Data analytics experience supporting policy development, with exposure to government processes.
  • Proven experience in stakeholder engagement and team management.
  • Proficiency in R or Python, including data manipulation and analysis.
  • Proficiency in SQL / SAS programming.
  • Experience managing projects and supporting junior staff.


Desirable Criteria

  • Knowledge of statistical modelling techniques (GLM, gradient boosting).
  • Experience solving open-ended, evolving business problems.
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git).
  • Experience developing dashboards, visualisations, and reporting for non-technical stakeholders.


These roles will be offered as initial 12 month contracts.
