Role Overview
We are looking for a motivated L1 Network Engineer to join our IT Infrastructure team. The candidate will be responsible for providing first-level support for network-related incidents, monitoring network performance, and assisting in troubleshooting issues to ensure smooth network operations. This role requires a strong foundation in networking concepts and the ability to escalate complex issues to higher-level engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor and manage network devices (routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, etc.) using NMS/monitoring tools.
- Provide first-level troubleshooting of network incidents, connectivity issues, and outages.
- Log and track tickets via ITSM/ServiceNow or other ticketing tools.
- Support day-to-day network operations (LAN, WAN, WLAN, VPN).
- Perform basic configuration and health checks of network devices under guidance.
- Escalate unresolved issues to L2/L3 Network Engineers with proper documentation.
- Assist in patching, cabling, and hardware replacement in data centers or office environments.
- Ensure compliance with IT policies and maintain accurate documentation of network changes and incidents.
Required Skills & Knowledge
- Good understanding of networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, Subnetting, Routing & Switching basics.
- Familiarity with network hardware (Cisco/Juniper/Aruba/HP switches, routers, firewalls).
- Knowledge of VPNs, Wireless networks, and basic firewall rules.
- Hands-on with network monitoring tools (SolarWinds, PRTG, Nagios, etc.).
- Exposure to ITSM tools (ServiceNow, Remedy, Jira Service Desk, etc.).
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work in 24/7 shift-based operations (if required).
