NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence newly established AI Laboratory is looking for analytical, collaborative, and mission-driven Cloud Engineer who combines deep technical expertise with the ability to communicate clearly, innovate responsibly, and ensure NATO’s cloud and AI capabilities are secure, resilient, and future-ready.
NATO StratCom COE’s AI Lab is an essential driver of the Alliance’s future readiness in the information environment. More than a research hub, it is a strategic enabler, advancing NATO’s edge in the cognitive warfare domain by delivering the research, prototypes, and expertise needed to further develop critical capabilities and maintain superiority in this domain. By addressing urgent challenges — from synthetic environments and digital twins to election safety, AI-powered training, and predictive decision-support — the Lab delivers validated prototypes and expert guidance, ensuring that NATO and its Allies can rapidly adopt AI solutions with a high operational impact.
Key responsibilities:
- Monitor AI and cloud advancements, maintaining expertise in model training, fine-tuning, and agent-based applications for NATO’s information space.
- Design and manage secure, scalable cloud infrastructures, automating deployments to support resilient AI applications.
- Develop data architectures and pipelines to support AI and analytics in cloud environments in close cooperation with Data scientists and AI engineers.
- Test effectiveness and applicability of cloud computing solutions and communicate findings through publications and presentations to technical and strategic audiences.
- Collaborate with researchers to ensure cloud solutions meet the technical and scientific requirements.
- Share expertise through conferences, workshops, and training, guiding cloud best practices and supporting the lessons-learned process.
Key requirements:
- A degree in computer science, cloud computing and/or related discipline.
- Strong background and experience in cloud computing, interest in AI applications as well as programming/scripting.
- Prior experience with data science (e.g., data collection, analysis, or visualization) is a strong advantage, but not strictly required.
- Fluency in several computer languages as well as machine learning, in particular large language models.
- Basic understanding of disinformation, cognitive effects, strategic communication, information operations, and/or psychological operations.
- Demonstrated understanding of ethical and social implications of artificial intelligence.
- Excellent presentation skills.
