As a Senior Data Scientist at Pohjola Insurance, you’ll do exactly that! We are seeking a new team member for a permanent position in Helsinki, with the possibility of partial remote work. The start date is negotiable.
A Few Words About The Job
As a Senior Data Scientist, you will drive the development of customer analytics or claims analytics, both in the short and long term. You’ll take ownership of these domains and work alongside a capable end-to-end team that supports every phase of analytics development.
You’ll help build modern, cloud-based data streams and the analytics solutions that leverage them. This role offers excellent opportunities for continuous professional growth, learning from multi-talented colleagues, and developing ambitious solutions. You’ll contribute to the long-term roadmap and vision for analytics products and play a key role in shaping the architecture and technical decisions for AI solutions.
Migrating our IT environment to Microsoft cloud services is part of OP Group’s updated IT strategy, and you’ll be instrumental in implementing cloud-based data capabilities in collaboration with various stakeholders.
What we expect from you?
We’re looking for someone who already excels in data and analytics work, as well as related software development. You understand what it takes to implement an AI product—including data flows, databases, interfaces, and models. Our most active interfaces handle hundreds of queries per second, so modeling skills alone are not enough.
At the senior level, we expect
- A higher education degree in a relevant field
- Several years of experience in similar roles
- Strong expertise in creating and validating NLP, ML, and GenAI models
- Excellent programming skills, especially in Python
- Ability to lead and guide analytics projects and provide technical support to team members
- Experience contributing to multi-year AI product roadmaps and visions
- Deep understanding of AI and ML fields and their development
- Strong communication and collaboration skills in English
- Ability to clearly and effectively communicate technical and complex topics to stakeholders
- Experience developing on cloud platforms, especially MS Azure and Databricks
- Experience with MLOps environments and maintaining production-level AI systems
- Familiarity with open-source technologies in large data projects
- Experience with agile methodologies
What We Will Offer You
We provide a responsible and independent role, along with the opportunity to shape the future of analytics at Pohjola Insurance using AI and machine learning. You’ll influence the direction of analytics work and technical choices. Programming skills and integrating modern cloud components into a functional production system are emphasized in this role. We use many open-source libraries, so you’ll work with the latest technologies at a deep level. You’ll have autonomy to decide the content of your own work within the team’s goals and influence how we move things forward. Best of all, our data products are developed for Pohjola’s own use, allowing you to focus on long-term, in-depth development.
You’ll join a professional, highly collaborative team as part of Pohjola Insurance’s broader data community, which supports you in deepening your knowledge and analyses. OP Group is one of Finland’s largest data organizations, so you’ll always have skilled colleagues to support you. We’re united by curiosity, activity, creativity, and a passion for working with large datasets. Our agile approach means we trust our experts and encourage bold decision-making.
Professional growth and self-improvement are part of our everyday culture. We follow the 70-20-10 principle 70% of your time is spent on daily tasks, 20% on refining work methods, and 10% on freely learning new skills. You can use this time, for example, at the OP Software Academy, where you can expand your expertise in many areas—during working hours!
As a counterbalance to responsible work, we take care of your well-being and future-oriented work arrangements. We offer you a stable environment where responsibility, human touch, and mutual success are key values.
You get access to our versatile staff benefits, which include a staff fund as well as staff-based banking, insurance, and loan services. We also offer comprehensive occupational health care, extensive medical expense insurance, and full-time accident insurance. We invest in everyday balance and flexibility as well as offering you lunch, exercise, and cultural benefits and the opportunity for inexpensive vacations in OP vacation shares.
