About The Role

The Staff Android Engineer at Capital One Canada plays a pivotal role in leading the development of cutting-edge mobile applications that enhance customer experience and drive innovation. This role requires a highly skilled professional who can motivate, manage, and inspire a team of software engineers to deliver high-quality, scalable, and reliable Android applications. The successful candidate will be responsible for owning the technical design, architecture, and development of cross-platform systems, working closely with product managers, designers, and other engineering teams to create seamless digital experiences.

At Capital One, we are passionate about leveraging technology to improve financial health and provide our customers with tools to take control of their credit. Our mobile applications include features such as Credit Keeper, which allows users to view and monitor their credit scores; Personal Information management, enabling users to update their details directly within the app; and Quick Check, providing pre-approval certainty for credit card applications. We are committed to building innovative products in a cloud-native environment, utilizing open source technologies, RESTful APIs, microservices, and containerization to deliver rapid and reliable updates to our customers.

This role does not involve direct reports but emphasizes advanced hands-on development, technical design, and architecture expertise. The engineer will be integral in shaping our mobile strategy and ensuring best practices across the development lifecycle, from conception to deployment and support.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, candidates should possess a minimum of six years of hands-on experience developing native Android applications using Java and Kotlin. They should have extensive knowledge of application and data design, architecture, and development. Experience with modern Android development tools and frameworks such as RxJava, Coroutines, Dagger, Espresso, JUnit, and Jenkins is essential. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to mentor junior and intermediate developers, guiding technical and business stakeholders effectively. A bachelor's, master's, or diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field is required.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical design, architecture, and development of cross-functional, multi-platform application systems to ensure scalable and maintainable solutions.
• Collaborate within a dynamic mobile development team throughout the entire Software Development Life Cycle, from planning to deployment.
• Enhance software engineering practices by working within agile teams to design, develop, test, and support technical solutions across various development tools and technologies.
• Provide expertise on how emerging technologies impact the domain and incorporate these insights into product development.
• Mentor and guide junior, intermediate, and senior mobile associates to foster professional growth and maintain high engineering standards.
