The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Embedded Engineer with expertise in hardware/software integration. This role requires defining system architecture, optimizing performance, and ensuring reliable communication between devices, sensors, and controllers in a distributed IoT environment. The Senior Embedded Engineer will play a pivotal role in developing and optimizing firmware, enhancing hardware-software integration, and leading critical R&D initiatives to maintain and advance our market leadership.

Our systems cover a wide range of the embedded aspects across software & hardware development in the enterprise automation and control domains, including areas such as RTOS, BLE, ZigBee, WiFi, Touch and other sensors.

What You Will Do

• Developing and optimizing firmware for embedded systems in IoT devices, ensuring reliability, efficiency, and scalability.
• Enhancing hardware-software integration to improve device performance and efficiency across HVAC, lighting, and energy management systems.
• Leading critical R&D initiatives that drive our company’s technological innovation and expansion.
• Embedded Firmware Development: Design, develop, and optimize embedded software for IoT-based building automation products.
• System Integration: Implement and integrate WiFi, BLE, ZigBee, and Modbus protocols into the product ecosystem.
• Firmware Architecture: Define and implement scalable and modular embedded architectures.
• Communication Protocols: Develop protocol stacks and ensure smooth data exchange between different components.
• Hardware-Software Integration: Work closely with the hardware team to ensure efficient and optimized software-hardware interaction.
• Performance Optimization: Ensure efficient use of microcontroller resources, optimizing RAM, FLASH, and CPU performance.
• Testing & Debugging: Perform extensive testing, debugging, and validation using tools like oscilloscopes, signal analyzers, and protocol analyzers.
• Security & Reliability: Implement secure communication, data encryption, and device authentication mechanisms.
• Team Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams, including cloud developers, hardware engineers, and product managers, to deliver seamless solutions.
• Technology Evaluation: Research and propose new technologies to enhance product features and performance.

Organizational Hierarchy 

• Direct reporting to the Lead Embedded Systems Engineer/ Head of Embedded Engineering in terms of responsibilities, schedules, HR related topics, and status reports
• Close collaboration with CTO on architectural system decisions
• Works with Product Management to understand requirements and product vision
• Collaborates with server side development and hardware teams as needed to deliver end-to-end solutions

What You'll Need To Succeed

• A strong technical and development background is a must. Should have excelled in C, C++ languages in embedded systems with a minimum of 10 years developing software.
• Relevant Bachelor’s or Masters degree, in Electrical/ Computer Engineering or equivalent.
• Experience working on enterprise solutions with infrastructure rather than single vertical products
• Strong hands-on experience in embedded system development using C/C++: dealing with common industry tool chains, compilation, linking and IDE usage, oscilloscopes and signal analyzers to analyze and debug. Must include hands-on with ARM based microcontrollers
• Hands-on with application development using embedded RTOS. Understanding embedded RTOS concepts (boot loaders, interrupts, preemption… etc)
• Experience in microcontrollers choice and setup optimized for required application: producer/family, computational power, size of RAM and FLASH, core functions, pinout configuration, etc…
• Experience in implementation of communication stacks Internet of Things (IoT):
• Several years experience working with radio communication in embedded devices using Bluetooth, Wifi, ZigBee, on both proprietary and standard protocols
• In depth experience with common industry I/O communication interfaces like I2C, SPI, SDIO and USB.
• In-depth working knowledge of embedded technologies and protocols, like TCP/IP, Ethernet, Bluetooth, Wifi 802.15.4, USB, etc. Experience with serial bus (RS-485) protocols like Modbus.
• Detailed knowledge and use of architectural and design patterns:
• Strong background defining embedded architectures and low level software interfaces
• Working knowledge in structured engineering approach
• Working knowledge in development or portable, reusable and modular software
• A record of achievement and technical solution expertise in a comparable role, including managing a team of developers in a cross-functional environment
• A strong understanding of the complete life cycle of a software development life cycle. Experience in Agile methodologies
• Working knowledge of embedded hardware design concepts; be able to understand / review electronic schematics
• Working knowledge of security-related aspects of embedded development, including cryptography.

Desirable / Beneficial Experience 

• Experience working with AWS IoT suite
• Experience with distributed Web applications and technologies (HTTP, WebSockets, CoAP, OAuth, XML, EXI, JSON, node.js, MQTT etc.) beneficial.
• Experience on light control, HVAC control, power control systems and general automation
• Experience with the hospitality environment
• Experience working with international and multi‐cultural teams
