6‑Month Contract | Major South Australian Government Department
A large South Australian Government organisation is seeking experienced Cyber Security Specialists to support several high‑profile digital transformation programs. This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a complex, enterprise‑scale environment, shaping and strengthening cyber security capabilities across multiple initiatives.
These roles are ideal for senior security professionals with strong technical expertise, architecture or engineering experience, and the ability to engage effectively with a broad range of stakeholders.
About the Role
You will play a key role in delivering security architecture, engineering services, and technical oversight within a dedicated cyber security program. This includes designing secure solutions, uplift initiatives, assessments, and guiding internal teams to ensure best‑practice security across critical systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with internal stakeholders to understand program requirements and security needs.
- Design and configure cloud and on‑prem security components aligned to recognised security baselines.
- Implement and maintain security controls to protect systems and data from cyber threats.
- Conduct security assessments, identify vulnerabilities, and recommend remediation.
- Develop and maintain processes for monitoring logs, alerts, and security events.
- Contribute to the development of security policies, standards, and procedures.
- Provide advice and guidance to development teams on secure design and implementation.
- Stay across emerging cyber trends, recommending improvements to strengthen security posture.
- Document configurations, processes, and procedures to support internal governance.
Essential Skills & Experience
- 5+ years’ experience in cyber security, with a strong focus on architecture or engineering.
- At least 2 years’ experience in one or more of the following:
- Cloud security configuration aligned to recognised standards
- Security frameworks (NIST, ISO, CIS, ISM, etc.)
- Security assessments, penetration testing review, or assurance
- Security architecture and translating business needs into secure designs
- Strong communication skills with the ability to explain security concepts to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving and risk‑mitigation capability.
- Ability to work independently or collaboratively within a fast‑paced environment.
Desirable Experience
- Knowledge of Essential Eight, ISM, or SA‑specific security frameworks.
- Hands‑on use of IAM, EDR, SIEM, firewalls, or similar tools.
- Experience with secure configuration, testing, and troubleshooting.
Mandatory Requirements
- Ability to pass government security screening and police checks.
- Willingness to complete confidentiality and conflict‑of‑interest declarations.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar role.
- Availability to commence immediately or shortly after.
Contract Details
- Initial 6‑month contract
- Located in the Adelaide CBD
- Immediate or near‑immediate start preferred
- Work within a major government cyber security program affecting multiple business units
