Location: Jealott’s Hill, UK

Contract length: 2 years

Pay rate: £17.74 per hour

About the Organisation

Our client is a global, R&D‑driven agricultural science organisation focused on improving food security worldwide. Through world‑class science and innovative crop solutions, their teams work internationally to transform how crops are grown and protected.

About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Research Scientist to join the Bioperformance group within the Bioscience function at an international research centre based at Jealott’s Hill.

The Bioperformance group conducts research into the ADME (Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism and Elimination) behaviour of active ingredients in both target and non‑target species. This work supports the understanding of product performance, selectivity, resistance, and translation from laboratory studies to field application.

The successful candidate will support a variety of product development and market support projects, generating high‑quality scientific data using laboratory, glasshouse and analytical techniques.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide scientific and technical support to assess the bioavailability of novel agrochemicals
  • Independently design, plan, execute and analyse experiments involving whole plants (in vivo) and plant parts (ex vivo)
  • Generate, interpret and present scientific data through detailed reports and presentations
  • Deliver agreed scientific priorities in line with project timelines
  • Ensure all work complies with Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) standards
  • Review and improve existing protocols to enhance capability and efficiency
  • Share knowledge and contribute to the development of new scientific capabilities

Essential Requirements

  • BSc or MSc (preferred) in Plant Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Soil Science or a related biological science
  • Minimum of 2 years’ relevant laboratory‑based experience in an academic or industrial setting
  • Strong scientific writing and verbal communication skills (fluent in English)
  • Good organisational and time‑management skills
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams

Desirable Experience

  • Professional experience in Pharmacology, Agronomy, Crop Protection, Biochemistry or Analytical Chemistry
  • Experience with ADME studies of active ingredients
  • LC‑MS analysis of small molecules
  • Handling and analysing large datasets, including data visualisation
  • Experience working with soil, seeds or plant physiology
  • Understanding of plant responses to biotic and abiotic stress
