About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Frontend Engineer to join our dynamic team in Toronto, with a hybrid work preference but open to remote candidates who demonstrate strong capabilities. This role is primarily focused on frontend development, with opportunities to contribute across the entire technology stack as part of building comprehensive end-to-end product experiences. As a key member of our team, you will be instrumental in shaping the primary interfaces used by entrepreneurs to operate their businesses, including our operator platform, in-store POS systems, mobile applications, customer touchpoints, and internal tools.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for creating intuitive, reliable, and scalable frontend solutions that solve real customer problems. You will collaborate closely with product managers, backend engineers, and design teams to develop workflows and APIs that are both powerful and easy to use. Your work will directly impact how entrepreneurs manage their retail operations, ensuring that complex operational tools are accessible, fast, and trustworthy as our platform continues to grow. This role offers a unique opportunity to work on high-impact projects, improve frontend architecture, optimize performance, and contribute to a product used in thousands of locations across North America.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in building and maintaining production-grade frontend applications
- Strong proficiency with modern frontend technologies such as React, React Native, and TypeScript
- Experience developing complex React-based products, including dashboards and operational interfaces
- Ability to debug complex frontend issues, including performance optimization, memory management, and production bugs
- Experience working with real production data and complex workflows
- Strong product instincts with keen attention to UX details
- Bias toward simplicity, high quality, and continuous improvement
- Experience with data-heavy or real-time applications is a plus
- Experience building mobile applications is advantageous
- Familiarity with tools like TanStack / React Query, MUI, or similar libraries
- Experience with frontend test automation frameworks such as Cypress
- Understanding of design systems or frontend platform work is a plus
- Background in startups or small teams emphasizing ownership and initiative
- Develop and enhance core product experiences across various platforms including web, in-store POS, mobile apps, and internal tools
- Take ownership of frontend features from initial implementation through deployment and iterative improvements
- Collaborate closely with product managers and backend engineers to design workflows, APIs, and data integrations
- Create interfaces that effectively balance functionality and simplicity for operational use cases
- Build and maintain real-time, data-rich frontend experiences for operational and in-store tasks
- Continuously improve frontend architecture, performance, and maintainability
- Make pragmatic tradeoffs to prioritize clarity, usability, and long-term quality
- Implement thorough testing and iterate based on user feedback to ensure high-quality deliverables
- Identify and resolve frontend bugs, including performance issues and edge cases
