About the Role
We’re seeking a Full Stack React JS Developer (Freelance) to join our client’s mission-driven team for an 8-month project based in Brussels. You’ll play a pivotal role in enhancing MaTIAS, an application that bridges language barriers for asylum seekers by enabling seamless, multi-language communication via WhatsApp. Your work will directly impact the lives of people from diverse backgrounds, empowering them to receive vital information in their own language.

As a builder on this project, you’ll help solve the critical challenge of multilingual communication in humanitarian contexts, making a tangible difference for thousands of individuals navigating new beginnings.
What You’ll Be Doing
Develop and enhance the MaTIAS application using React JS, focusing on user experience and scalability.
Implement improvements to existing features and contribute to new functionalities that support multi-language messaging.
Integrate automatic translation workflows to ensure messages are accurately delivered in 14 different languages via WhatsApp.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless backend and frontend integration.
Contribute to database management and optimization to support application performance.
Participate in code reviews, share knowledge, and uphold best practices in software development.
Work partially remotely, with some on-site collaboration in Brussels as required.
What We’re Looking For
Proven experience as a Full Stack Developer, with confirmed expertise in React JS and JavaScript.
Hands-on experience with Node.js (junior level) and database management (junior level).
Builder mindset: proactive, ownership-driven, and passionate about solving real-world problems.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural, mission-driven environment.
Strong communication skills and a commitment to delivering impactful solutions.

Language Proficiency
Professional proficiency in English is required.
Knowledge of French or Dutch is a plus, but not mandatory.
