Backend Developer (Kotlin / Java spring boot)

We are looking for a Backend Developer to join our Sport Game Platform (SGP) team to develop parimutuel betting. The position is permanent and full-time.

In This Role You Get

• To be an integral part of an agile development team building reliable, scalable, and high-performing backend services for our Sport Game Platform.
• To work together with frontend developers and other backend developers, quality engineers, designers, product manager and different stakeholders – learning best practices, sharing your own ideas, and growing your development skills in a supportive environment.
• Hands-on experience with modern technologies such as Kotlin, Spring Boot, Kafka, GCP, and event-driven architectures in a large, innovative tech organization.
• The opportunity to contribute to the design, implementation, testing, and deployment of new features and services – and to influence technical decisions.
• To make a tangible impact on products used by hundreds of thousands of players, ensuring a responsible and enjoyable betting experience.

Required Skills

• A degree in Computer Science or a related field
• Experience in backend development with Kotlin or Java Spring Boot
• Experience with modern frontend development using React, NodeJS and TypeScript as secondary languages
• Experience with Kafka or other event-driven systems, transactional services (related to ecommerce), NoSQL-databases, Terraform, CI/CD and cloud platforms (e.g. GCP)
• Strong foundation in software engineering principles
• Good communication skills in English
• Strong teamwork skills
• Ability to work independently and take initiative
  
  

A university-level education in a relevant field is preferred but not required. We also welcome applicants with alternative educational backgrounds who can demonstrate strong programming skills through personal projects or other hands-on experience.

The position is located at Veikkaus’ headquarters in Pohjois-Haaga, Helsinki. We work flexibly in a hybrid model with three on-site days per week.
