About The Role

EarthCam is seeking a motivated and curious Junior Backend Developer to join our in-house development team. In this role, you will be responsible for building and maintaining robust backend services and APIs that power our web applications. Primarily working with PHP and the Laravel framework, you will support reliable data flows between various systems, ensuring seamless integration and operation. Qualifications

The ideal candidate should possess a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or have equivalent practical experience. Hands-on experience with PHP and Laravel, whether through coursework, internships, personal projects, or professional roles, is essential. A solid understanding of backend fundamentals such as APIs, MVC architecture, authentication, and data modeling is required. Familiarity with relational databases like MySQL, including query writing and indexing basics, is highly desirable. Knowledge of version control systems like Git, and experience with project management tools such as Jira and Confluence, will be advantageous. Basic understanding of front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is helpful for effective collaboration across the stack. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a dedication to producing high-quality, maintainable work are critical for success in this role.

Responsibilities

Your primary responsibilities will include developing and maintaining backend features using PHP (Laravel) to support our product and business needs. You will build and support RESTful APIs used by internal tools and customer-facing applications, ensuring reliable and efficient data exchange. Working closely with databases, primarily MySQL, you will design schemas, optimize queries, and improve overall database performance. Implementing validation, authentication, authorization, and secure data handling practices will be a key aspect of your role. You will write clean, testable code, assist with debugging, bug fixes, and provide ongoing production support. Collaborating with front-end developers to integrate APIs and ensure smooth end-to-end functionality will be essential. Additionally, you will participate in code reviews, adhere to established development standards, and document backend endpoints, workflows, and technical decisions. Staying current with industry best practices and continuously improving your skills in Laravel and PHP will be part of your ongoing professional development.
