About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Staff Android Engineer to join our dynamic technology team in Toronto, Ontario. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and maintaining our cross-platform mobile applications, primarily focusing on Android. You will work closely with product managers, designers, and other engineering teams to deliver innovative features that enhance our customers' financial experience. This position requires a deep understanding of native Android development using Java and Kotlin, as well as experience with modern development practices such as microservices, RESTful APIs, and cloud integration. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background, demonstrate leadership in software architecture, and be passionate about creating scalable, high-quality mobile solutions that align with our company's mission and values.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have a minimum of six years of hands-on experience in native Android application development using Java and Kotlin. A solid understanding of application and data architecture, design principles, and development lifecycle is essential. Experience with reactive programming frameworks such as RxJava and Coroutines, dependency injection tools like Dagger, and testing frameworks including Espresso and Junit is required. Additionally, familiarity with continuous integration tools such as Jenkins and cloud platforms like AWS will be advantageous. Candidates should also have demonstrated experience mentoring junior team members and collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams. A bachelor’s or higher degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related fields is preferred.

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for owning the technical design, architecture, and development of complex, multi-platform application systems. This includes working within agile teams throughout the entire software development lifecycle—from planning and coding to testing and deployment. You will contribute to improving engineering practices by implementing best practices in coding, testing, and deployment. Your role will involve collaborating with product owners and stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions, ensuring high performance, security, and scalability. Additionally, you will provide mentorship and guidance to junior, intermediate, and senior mobile developers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation. Your expertise will influence the adoption of new technologies and practices that keep our applications at the forefront of the industry.
