About the Role

We’re seeking a highly skilled IT Developer (Android) for a freelance engagement with our client in Brussels. This 7-month project is your opportunity to join a high-performing Agile squad, shaping the next generation of Android applications that drive real business impact. You’ll work alongside top-tier software specialists, translating complex requirements into robust, high-quality code that delivers measurable outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Translate business and technical requirements into high-quality, maintainable Kotlin code for the Android platform.
• Design, build, and maintain high-performance, reusable, and reliable Android applications using Jetpack Compose and Material 3 design principles.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver new features and enhancements.
• Integrate with external data sources, RESTful APIs, and third-party libraries.
• Ensure optimal application performance, quality, and responsiveness.
• Write and maintain unit tests to ensure code robustness, covering edge cases and usability.
• Identify and resolve bottlenecks, bugs, and performance issues.
• Champion code quality, organization, and automation within the team.
• Actively participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to team success over individual heroics.
• Share knowledge, challenge requirements constructively, and foster continuous improvement.

Technical Skills

• Minimum 6 years of relevant experience in Android development.
• Expertise in Kotlin and Android SDK (multiple versions).
• Proven experience with Jetpack Compose and Material 3 design.
• Strong grasp of clean code principles and effective refactoring.
• Solid understanding of Google’s Android design principles, DDD, and best practices.
• Hands-on experience with Test Driven Development (TDD).
• Proficiency with version control systems (SVN/Git, GitLab or alternatives).
• Experience with CI/CD tools: Jenkins, SonarQube, Fortify.
• Familiarity with Confluence and JIRA for documentation and project tracking.
• Experience integrating RESTful APIs and third-party libraries.
• Knowledge of Continuous Integration/Deployment principles.
• Preferred: Experience with Docker, Containers, and Groovy.

Language Proficiency

• Fluent English (spoken and written).
• Proficiency in at least one local language (French or Dutch).

Other Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• Demonstrated Agile mindset: focus on team success, openness to feedback, and commitment to continuous learning.
• Practical experience working in Agile/Scrum teams, ideally with large developer groups.
• Active knowledge sharing and willingness to contribute beyond your primary role.
• Prepared to engage in pair programming and challenge requirements constructively.
