Job Title: Data Center Technician

Job Summary:
We are seeking a qualified Onsite Server Installation Technician to support the physical installation and racking of a Dell PowerEdge R760 server at a client site in Reno, NV. The technician will be responsible for unboxing, racking, cabling, and initial power-on tasks, followed by remote coordination for system configuration and network testing. This is a hands-on role requiring coordination with the remote infrastructure team.
Key Responsibilities:
Phase 1: Planning & Pre-Installation
• Coordinate with the client to schedule site access and confirm hardware delivery.
• Review the server’s Bill of Materials (BOM) to ensure all components are available.
• Verify readiness of rack space, power supply, and network ports (Ethernet).
Phase 2: Physical Installation
• Unbox and rack the Dell PowerEdge R760 server using Dell ReadyRails and cable management arm.
• Connect power cords and Ethernet cables following standard cabling practices.
• Power on the server and confirm successful POST diagnostics and LED indicator status.
• Check server fans and physical indicators for normal operation.
• Document server details including serial numbers, asset tags, and rack placement.
Phase 3: Remote Configuration Support
• Collaborate with the remote infrastructure team to:
o Set up RAID as per client specifications.
o Perform BIOS and firmware updates (latest Dell-recommended versions).
o Install the Windows Server OS using the provided license key.
o Activate and configure Dell iDRAC (Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller).
o Verify network connectivity (e.g., ping test, domain access if applicable).
Requirements:
• Proven experience with racking and cabling Dell servers (PowerEdge preferred).
• Familiarity with server hardware diagnostics and installation procedures.
• Basic understanding of RAID, BIOS/firmware updates, and OS installation.
• Ability to follow documentation and communicate effectively with remote teams.
• Must be physically capable of handling server hardware and tools.
• Strong attention to detail for documentation and configuration accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Dell Certified Technician (preferred, not mandatory).
• Experience working in enterprise data center or remote branch environments.
• Basic networking knowledge (IP configuration, Ethernet cabling standards).
