About The Role

We are seeking a talented and experienced Software Engineer specializing in Android development to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, developing, and maintaining Lyft’s Android applications that serve millions of users worldwide. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including product managers, data scientists, designers, and other engineering professionals to deliver high-quality, scalable, and user-centric features. Your work will directly impact the way millions experience Lyft’s services, from rideshare booking to real-time driver feedback. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work on mission-critical mapping assets and contribute to innovative features that enhance user experience and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2+ years of professional experience as an Android developer
• Proven track record of shipping large-scale Android applications
• Strong proficiency in Java and Kotlin programming languages
• Experience with modern design and architecture patterns
• Solid understanding of usability principles and product design
• Experience building web services and accessing various data storage solutions
• Knowledge of reactive programming, unidirectional data flow, and related concepts (bonus)
• Excellent communication skills with advanced proficiency in English
• Strong understanding of architecture and design patterns
• Experience collaborating with product managers, designers, and cross-functional teams
• Passion for creating user-friendly and innovative mobile experiences
• Experience with side projects or open-source contributions (bonus)

Responsibilities

• Stay current with the latest Android development trends, tools, and best practices
• Design and develop engaging user experiences for millions of Lyft users
• Collaborate with product teams to build innovative features and functionalities
• Participate in new feature development, experimentation, and data analysis to optimize user engagement
• Address and solve complex real-time data transfer and synchronization challenges
• Ensure high-quality code through rigorous testing, code reviews, and adherence to best practices
• Contribute to the overall architecture and technical strategy of Lyft’s Android applications
• Work closely with backend teams to integrate APIs and data services seamlessly
• Assist in troubleshooting, debugging, and optimizing app performance
• Support continuous improvement initiatives and participate in agile development processes
