About The Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled UX/UI Designer to join our dynamic team within the User Experience group of the Application Development Division at ORNL. In this role, you will collaborate closely with researchers, fellow designers, developers, and stakeholders to create intuitive, accessible, and visually compelling user experiences for a variety of web-based applications. Your primary responsibility will be to leverage user-centered design methodologies to develop solutions that align with both user needs and organizational objectives. You will be instrumental in translating complex concepts into wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs, supporting the implementation process to ensure design integrity and quality. This position offers the opportunity to work remotely in pre-approved locations, providing flexibility while contributing to ORNL’s mission of scientific excellence and innovation.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in design, human-computer interaction, psychology, or a related field.
- Minimum of two (2) to four (4) years of professional experience in UX/UI design.
- Master’s degree in the same fields is preferred, with at least one (1) to three (3) years of relevant experience.
- A portfolio showcasing case studies that demonstrate design process, impact, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Figma for designing and prototyping.
- Strong understanding of design principles, interaction design, responsive design, typography, and color theory.
- Experience designing responsive, web-based interfaces.
- Knowledge of front-end technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and drive consensus.
- Experience working within an agile development environment is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Utilize user-centered methodologies to design engaging and accessible user experiences that meet organizational and user needs.
- Develop and communicate design concepts through wireframes, flow diagrams, storyboards, mockups, and high-fidelity prototypes.
- Seek and incorporate feedback from stakeholders and users to validate and refine design solutions.
- Support the implementation of designs to ensure they uphold the intended user experience and quality standards.
- Contribute to the collective knowledge of the UX team by sharing best practices, research methodologies, and innovative design techniques.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate design solutions seamlessly into development processes.
- Align design strategies with ORNL’s core values of Impact, Integrity, Teamwork, Safety, and Service.
