About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Android Developer to join our team working on the NHS App project. In this role, you will be integral to the development, enhancement, and maintenance of the Android version of the NHS App, which serves millions of users across England. You will collaborate within a cross-functional team comprising designers, product managers, infrastructure specialists, and testers. Your primary focus will be on creating high-quality, performant, and secure features that enhance user experience and meet healthcare standards. Throughout the product lifecycle, you will be responsible for designing scalable solutions, writing clean code, and ensuring the app’s stability and compliance with Google Play Store requirements. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a vital public service application that impacts millions of lives.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in Android development with Kotlin and Android Studio. A strong understanding of Android design principles, interface guidelines, and architecture patterns such as MVVM is essential. You should have a passion for mobile development, staying up-to-date with the latest industry trends and best practices. Experience with integrating RESTful APIs, handling concurrency, and using native OS features like push notifications and Health Connect is required. Familiarity with Jetpack Compose, Gradle, and mobile analytics tools will be advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate a collaborative mindset, problem-solving skills, and a proactive approach to troubleshooting and performance improvements. Knowledge of DevOps practices, continuous integration, and delivery pipelines is also desirable.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to design, document, and develop scalable solutions for the NHS App's Android platform using Kotlin.
- Write comprehensive unit and integration tests to ensure code quality and reliability.
- Develop clean, maintainable, and efficient code following best practices and coding standards.
- Optimize application performance and speed to deliver an exceptional user experience.
- Ensure compliance with Google Play store requirements and guidelines.
- Work closely with UI/UX designers to implement intuitive and visually consistent interfaces.
- Support applications in production, including troubleshooting and resolving issues promptly.
- Continuously seek opportunities to improve codebase, architecture, and overall application performance.
- Integrate with backend services via RESTful APIs and handle background tasks efficiently.
- Utilize native OS features such as push notifications, Health Connect, and Intents to enhance app functionality.
- Apply SOLID principles and design patterns to improve code structure and maintainability.
- Participate in code reviews, agile ceremonies, and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
This position offers a daily rate of 610 inside IR35, with the flexibility of remote working.
