About The Role
We are seeking an experienced Android Developer to join our dynamic team working on the NHS App, a crucial digital health platform used by millions across England. In this role, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and enhancing features within the Android version of the NHS App. Collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team comprising tech, design, business, product, infrastructure, and testing professionals, you will contribute to designing, coding, testing, and delivering new functionalities while ensuring the stability and performance of existing features. Your work will directly impact the user experience of healthcare services, making it a rewarding opportunity for a passionate developer committed to creating impactful digital solutions.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess proven experience in Android development using Kotlin and Android Studio. You should have a deep understanding of Android design principles and interface guidelines, with a passion for mobile technology and a commitment to staying current with the latest trends and best practices. A solid grasp of MVVM architecture and associated design patterns is essential, along with the ability to apply SOLID principles to improve code quality and maintainability. Experience with continuous integration and delivery pipelines, troubleshooting, and performance optimization is required. Familiarity with Jetpack Compose, native OS features such as push notifications, Health Connect, and Intents, as well as RESTful API integration, will be highly advantageous. A DevOps mindset and understanding of how software and infrastructure work together are also important for success in this role.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to design, document, and develop high-quality, scalable solutions for the NHS App's Android application using Kotlin.
- Create comprehensive unit and integration tests to ensure code robustness and reliability.
- Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code following best practices and coding standards.
- Optimize solutions for performance and speed to deliver an excellent user experience.
- Ensure the application complies with Google Play Store requirements and guidelines.
- Work closely with UI/UX designers to implement consistent, intuitive, and visually appealing interfaces.
- Support and troubleshoot applications in production environments, addressing issues promptly.
- Integrate native OS features such as push notifications, Health Connect, and Intents to enhance app functionality.
- Implement and maintain RESTful API integrations to support app features.
- Handle concurrency effectively, managing background tasks and network activities without impacting UI responsiveness.
- Apply continuous improvement practices, proactively identifying and resolving issues in your domain.
