Backend Engineer (Firebase/TypeScript)

About Us

Medverse builds PC training simulations for medical devices, delivered via cloud streaming to enterprise healthcare clients. We're a small team building a scalable platform from scratch - this is an opportunity to shape both the product and how we work.

The Role

You will build and own the backend application that powers our training platform: session management, analytics pipelines, LMS integrations, and the APIs connecting our Unity applications to enterprise systems. This is a backend-focused role with real ownership - you'll be the sole backend engineer.

• Firebase Cloud Functions (TypeScript)
• Firestore
• BigQuery for analytics
• AWS AppStream for streaming
• LTI 1.3 for LMS integration

What You'll Work On

• Firestore triggers, security rules, and Cloud Functions
• REST APIs for Unity client integration
• LTI 1.3 launch flows and grade passback with enterprise LMS (Absorb, Cornerstone)
• BigQuery analytics pipelines and data exports
• AppStream session orchestration
• Monitoring, alerting, and incident response
• Security and compliance for healthcare enterprise clients

Requirements

• 5+ years backend development experience
• Production experience with Firebase Cloud Functions and Firestore (not just tutorials or side projects)
• Proficient in TypeScript/Node.js (this is not a Python, Java, or .NET role)
• Solid understanding of REST API design and auth flows (OAuth, JWT)
• Comfortable with GCP and AWS
• Security-conscious mindset
• Strong ownership - you ship things properly, not just "done"
• Very good English communication

Strong Preference For

• Experience with enterprise integrations or B2B SaaS
• LMS or EdTech background
• Based in Munich

This Role Isn't a Fit If

• Your Firebase experience is limited to tutorials or side projects
• Your backend work is primarily Java, C#, Python, or Go
• You're looking for a frontend-heavy or full-stack role
• You need visa sponsorship

Location

Must be currently based in Germany. Remote-friendly with occasional on-site in Munich.
