Senior Backend Engineer (Node.js / TypeScript)

Ratepunk is a travel tech platform that helps users find cheaper flights and hotel deals by comparing prices across sites and alerting them when prices drop. You’ll be working in a fast-growing, data-driven environment focused on building smart tools that make travel more affordable and transparent for everyone.

What You’ll Do

• Lead the design and evolution of scalable, secure, and resilient backend systems
• Own architectural decisions and drive improvements in overall system design
• Design and build distributed, high-load services using Node.js and TypeScript
• Shape and refine complex domain logic around pricing intelligence, real-time data processing, and third-party integrations
• Define API design standards and ensure consistency across services
• Proactively identify performance bottlenecks and optimize databases, caching layers, and infrastructure reliability
• Take full ownership of features — from system design and technical planning to deployment, monitoring, and continuous optimization
• Improve observability, reliability, and operational excellence across backend services
• Raise engineering standards through mentorship, code reviews, and architectural guidance
• Contribute to long-term technical strategy and platform scalability roadmap

What We Expect

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience in production systems
• Strong expertise in system design and architectural decision-making
• Deep understanding of Node.js and TypeScript in scalable environments
• Advanced experience with PostgreSQL and Redis, MongoDB  including performance tuning and data modeling at scale
• Experience building and maintaining distributed or high-load systems
• Solid understanding of performance optimization, scalability patterns, and reliability principles
• Experience with CI/CD, monitoring, logging, and production debugging
• Ability to balance business needs with technical trade-offs
• Ownership mindset — comfortable leading initiatives and influencing technical direction
• Strong communication skills and ability to mentor other engineers

Salary

Gross salary range: €5000–7000/month, depending on experience and expertise.

Location

Vilnius, Lithuania: 3 days onsite, 2 flexible remote days
